16 Bots/Nam Palmwag 23/5/14

Did further maintenance to Anthony's punctures and hit the road later than intended. 15 kms out of Epupa, the tyre was flat. Switched to repaired spare. Another 20 or so kms and that one had started to get flatter. Out with the compressor and TyreWeld. That did the trick and held for the 200 km needed for us to get to a tyre repair place in Opuwo. 2 hours there and we were ready to rock 'n roll. The road is quite hectic with lots of river bed depressions. Vegetation changed to beautiful massive trunk baobabs and large thorn bushes. Climbed up to 1313 meters and as we crested the mountain, a breathtaking panorama unfolded.
Need a very wide angle lens to do justice to the scenery.

Gayle and Anthony wending their weary way

Next was a hectic mini mountain pass. Not high, but steep and gravel road badly damaged by recent heavy rains. Repair work in progress. Didn't even think to take pics just concentrated on not panicking.

Pulled into a camping place just outside Sesfontein to avoid travelling when dark. Place wasn't bad but not quite what we wanted. Pushed through to original destination, Palmwag Lodge. Arrived in darkness. Passed skittish Springbuck, Gemsbok and Zebra marginally lit up by our headlights on the verge of the road.
Had a lovely supper at the lodge. Soup, Rump Steak and Pork Sirloin plus dessert.
Nice camp.
