Day 6 (2/9)

Last day at Kgalagadi.  Just when we thought this place had seen the last of us, it turns out to be a beautiful day.  Wind coming in cooler and gentler from the South.  Up close and personal view of 2 magnificent, if rather sleepy, male lions.

Also, we found one of the youngsters from yesterday's family of cheetah all alone and crying shrilly.  We knew, from other vehicles, that Mum and sibling were feeding on a Springbok further down the road so we felt sure that he would find them.  (This was subsequently confirmed by a "voice emanating from the bathroom" that she had seen the 3 cheetah feeding happily about 3 hours after our sighting.  It further transpired that the cheetah had caught a Springbok yesterday which the 2 lions had stolen, hence the lions rather contented and sleepy demeanor!) - ah - all is well that ends well!

The little pygmy falcon was posing for us - he is no bigger than your average house sparrow, very special.

Our itinerary may change a bit towards the end of this trip as we met an old friend (from last year's excursion!!) who mentioned that we HAVE to go to Luderitz and view, inter alia, the Ghost Town - it would appear you are right, Doc and that shouldn't be missed!
Met the "Scorpion King" - a young, rather good looking, French chap who was "attacked" by a scorpion just outside the 'blutes last night.  He is none the worse for wear - it appears it was a relatively harmless scorpion.  Moral of the story - wear shoes and carry a torch - preferably switched on and lighting the way forward!!
