Day 8

Overnighted at Transkalahari End Resort (Die Dam) - it is right on the outskirts of Gobabis.  The B6 - Transkalahari Highway - single lane tar road) borders the venue. (Get your kicks on Route B6!!!) It was very noisy - a Friday night "Rave" (Eish!) was booming away in town and traffic, predominantly big trucks, was whooshing past.  In spite of all this, we slept!  Woke around 2ish and all was blissfully quiet. At 4am the trucks started up again and were joined by a chorus of Egyptian Geese from Die Dam - needless to say, we had an early start!  Oh, we had a meal at the restaurant - decided on beef burgers - took an hour to serve!  Definitely not "Fast Food".  It was delicious tho'.  Spent most of the night pre bed trying to get the data card to work to no avail.  Set off on Route B6 at 7am; arrived in Windhoek at 9am - Saturday morning shoppers deluxe.  Oh, forgot to mention that up until tomorrow, Nam is 1 hour behind SA so we actually arrived at 8am and no shops were open :-)  Luis was supposed to get his fishing licence from the Dept of Fisheries - we hadn't realised it was a Saturday sooooo - govt department, therefore NOT open on Saturdays!!  Went downcastedly trudging off to an MTC outlet - what incredible service:  N$499 later, we are the proud owner of an MTC USB Modem AND 1 GIG of data!!  (That's excluding the N$300 we spent yesterday for 300mb!!).  Seriously tho', the consultant, Winston, was excellent and took a lot of time to assist us with setting everything up (just to make sure it worked this time!).  The other bit of good news is that the new modem is definitely not network locked (Unlike the Vodacom story!!!) so, when we go zooming off on our travels, we should have a working modem!
The scenery around Windhoek is stunning - rolling mountains (still the lowveld type of vegetation).

We drove past a lot of conservancies and spotted a number of warthog and steenbok on the (large) grass verges.
Arrived at Waterberg Plateau - lovely place in lovely quiet setting.  No self driving but some interesting walks.  We are here for 2 nights so will explore in detail tomorrow.  The forest walk appeals to me - supposedly some lovely birds but that might be more in Summer when the migrants arrive.
