Drotsky's Cabins (Shakawe) 16/9/11 (Day 12)

Had a lovely secluded & dark campfire evening.

Woke to a canopy of bird chorus, grunting hippos and cry of fish eagle.

Lovely morning walk among the trees next to the river. The pathways are swept daily. 'Blutes are spotless.

I nearly fell down an embankment (crocs below with mouths agape) trying to get a shot of what we thought was a Pygmy kingfisher. Turned out to be a Malachite but the white breasted variety which only hangs around up here.

Luis has had a hectic time with camp pets. At Island Safari Lodge there is a beautiful, loving friendly cat scrounging scraps. Everyone else could pet him but the minute Luis started the cat would triple punch him with his paws. The good news is the cat's claws were sheathed.
Here at Shakawe, there is a very timid looking dog. I petted him no problem. As soon as Luis tried, the dog bit him!

It's very hot, again (still?). The swimming pool is a way away and a very hot, dusty walk to get there. Cooled off using Kempton Park water that has travelled 2 423 kms and our magic shower/hose attachment.

Works like a dream.

I insisted on bringing umpteen boxes of Nestle Cappuccino. I have used one sachet thus far! Also, all our warm clothes remain packed away, unused. At this point it seems hard to believe that we will need them even on the Namibian West Coast, but, from past experience, I'm sure we will!

Namibia is about 14kms away. We will cross the border tomorrow and will be without communication for a couple of days until I can purchase an MTC microsim in Katima Mulilo.
